About Us

The Bangladesh Society for Child Neurology, Development and Disability (BSCNDD) was founded in 2006 by multidisciplinary professionals, which included pediatricians, psychologists, therapists and experts from related fields, mostly working within government and non-government hospitals to address the unmet needs of large population of children presenting with neurological disorders and neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDDs).

 

Among its key objectives were the development of expertise in multiple fields of child neurology and development; facilitating the establishment of much needed services across the country; and working towards the establishment of Pediatric Neurology and Child Development as a key sub-speciality in the field of Pediatrics.

Achievements till date have been the establishment of 35 Child Development Centers (‘Shishu BIkash Kendra’, or SBKs,  in Bangla) run by multidisciplinary professionals within hospitals across Bangladesh; post graduate courses (MD and FCPS courses in Pediatric Neurology and Development); and the emergence of a pediatric sub-speciality called Pediatric Neurology and Development with courses established in various post-graduate hospitals,  with  FCPS and MD degrees being conferred in the subject.

The inclusion of Child Psychologists and Developmental Therapists as key non-medical professionals within SBKs are also milestones within the health services.  

The BSCNDD arranges advanced lectures, seminars, and symposiums on varied subjects as part of its Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme. The society has continued to organize various meetings, seminars, conferences and other special observance days till date. This includes 44 Executive Committee meetings, 35 Scientific Seminars, 10 Autism Awareness Days for 10 consecutive years, 5 World Disability Days, and 3 National Conferences. The society has also co-hosted conferences and seminars with its affiliated societies, eg, the Shishu Bikash Network (SBN);   the Bangladesh Child Neuro Electro Physiology Society (BCNEPS); and the Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation (BPF).
